David Gange shortlisted for the 2020 Wainwright Prize

The 2020 Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing shortlist was announced on 30th July.  David Gange’s book THE FRAYED ATLANTIC EDGE (William Collins 2019) is on the UK Nature Writing shorlist.  The full announcement is available here.

Now in its seventh year, The Wainwright Prize for UK Nature Writing is awarded annually to the book which most successfully inspires readers to explore the outdoors and to nurture a respect for the natural world. The judging panel will be chaired by TV presenter Julia Bradbury, and her fellow judges are: Geoff Duffield, Wildlife Trust volunteer and former publisher; Andrew Willan, Wealden Festival Director; Patrick Neale, Bookseller Jaffe & Neale; Jessica J Lee, Editor WillowHerb Review; Celia Richardson, Director Comms and Insight, National Trust.

The winners’ annoucement will be made on 9th September.

David Gange is Senior Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Birmingham and has published history books with Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Oneworld Publications.

In one brilliant adventure over the course of a year, David Gange kayaked the coasts of Atlantic Britain and Ireland, every inlet and every island. THE FRAYED ATLANTIC EDGE, published by William Collins in 2019, tells that story, and gives a social history of our coasts which for centuries were vital hubs for communication and trade but can often now be neglected.

An extract from the book is available here.
