Rick and Katie both have a passion for food ingrained in their blood with Cordon Bleu trained and catering business mothers. Rick was previously Assistant Manager at Fishworks, becoming their youngest General Manager in the group before realising his and Katie’s joint dream of owing their own restaurant. Katie left her Marketing role at Sony Music in order to make this dream a reality and Prawn on the Lawn opened in 2013. Despite having had no formal food training, Rick and Katie discover their dish inspiration from all avenues; experimenting, travelling and visiting other restaurants. Within the first year of opening Prawn on the Lawn reached No. 1 on Tripadvisor’s restaurant poll beating the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Raymond Blanc. Earlier this year POTL was chosen to feature on Channel 4’s ‘Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight’ and it looks certain to maintain its position as one of the most exciting restaurants and fishmongers in London.
In May 2015 Rick & Katie decided to move to Cornwall to set up a second restaurant, Prawn on the Lawn Padstow leaving POTL Islington in the capable hands of their dedicated team. This has allowed Rick to experiment with different dishes, making the most of the local produce of lobsters and crabs and cooking them on the charcoal grill that he installed into the kitchen. Since opening Rick has been asked to do live chef demos at the Padstow Christmas Festival and the Great Cornish Food Festival and had one of his recipes featured in The Great Cornish Fish Bok which was published in September 2015.
Their own cookbook PRAWN ON THE LAWN was published by Pavilion in 2018.
